Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark III, Blue Dial, manufactured in circa 1976.

During the 1970s Omega made several attempts to freshen up the looks of the Speedmaster Professional. The Mark III is one of those attempts - the second in line - and it is a true child of the 1970s with a bulky design that seems quite awkward today. 

However, the Mark III also stands out as the first speedmaster professional to feature an automatic movement. Whereas the original Speedmaster Professional, and the Mark II were equipped with mechanical movements that required hand-winding, the Mark III featured the Automatic calibre 1040.

The Mark III had a relatively short production run, and is considered today quite rare.

The watch listed here shows obvious signs of wear on all its parts (case, crystal, bracelet). It is however unpolished, and we believe that the mineral crystal is likely the original the watch came with.

The Omega 1040 movement in this watch keeps time with a variation of <10 sec per day.

The Speedmaster Professional Mark III has a case and bracelet made of stainless steel, and a mineral crystal. 

The movement indicates hours, minutes, seconds, date, and has a day-night indication. It also features a chronograph function, with seconds and minutes set on the center, and a 12-hour totalizer at 6.
