A vintage Heuer Professional Diver Jumbo (42mm) from the very early series, pre-Tag Heuer era.

This Heuer 980.006 has a case made of stainless steel with a clean black dial and a black rotating bezel. It has a sapphire crystal, and a screw down crown and comes on an aftermarket olive green nylon strap. The case houses a quartz movement with indications of hours, minutes, seconds, and date. As a Professional Diver, it is water resistant to 20atm.

Overall this is a well kept example of the early series of Heuer Professional Diver watches.

The stainless steel case is in very good condition although it does show some wear proportionate to a normally used watch of its age. The bezel of the watch shows some scratches. The crystal is in excellent condition. The dial of the watch shows minor traces of patina compatible with the age of the watch.

The Heuer Professional Diver series first appeared in 1979, and was manufactured for Heuer by Monnin in France.

The success of the watch, which greatly assisted in Heuer's survival through the quartz crisis, soon convinced Heuer to bring production in house after the first outsourced batches. The Diver, in its several iterations, remained in the catalogue after the merger with TAG and up to the 1990s, when it eventually transformed into the Aquaracer series that is still with us today.

We estimate the production of the particular watch to between 1979 and 1983.
