Alexander the Great is one of the most outstanding personalities to walk the face of the earth and certainly a man who left an indelible imprint in global history.

From an early age his teacher Aristotle nurtured in Alexander a great love for the Arts and the Sciences. Naturally, Alexander the Great was also trained in the arts of war and of the state, and soon enough those arts he had to put in practice.

Alexander the Great, Alexander III of Macedon, succeeded his father Philip II to the throne of Macedon in 336BC, at the age of 20. He immediately moved to unite the Greek city-states and launched a lengthy military campaign throughout Western Asia and Northeastern Africa.

By the age of 30 Alexander was established as the ruler of one of the largest empires in history, stretching from Greece to northwestern India. Lands that had never been united before were brought now into a common empire, and Alexander himself was recognised as King of Macedon, Pharaoh of Egypt, King of Persia, Lord of Asia, and as a demi-god, son of Ammon.

Alexander the Great was undefeated in battle and is widely considered to be one of history's greatest and most successful military commanders.

However, Alexander the Great had his mind set to tasks more ambitious than mere conquest. Along with his armiesmoved an army of scientists, artists, and scholars whose purpose was so much to spread Greek culture to the conquered populations, as to assimilate useful knowledge and return it to the homeland.

Greek art, architecture, and philosophy bloomed in many parts of the Orient, and thus commenced the Hellenistic era.

His life was brought to an end by either sickness or poison in Babylon in 323BC at the age of 32 leaving much of his thirst for conquest unquenched.

The barrel of the pen is made black marbled lacquer with gold veins. The knob and a ring at the midsection of the fountain pen are gold coated and carry a design inspired from Hellenistic art that is also reflected on the cap. The higher part of the cap features a lotus motiff underlined by black enamel. The fountain pen has an 18kt gold nib depicting the head of a ram, symbol of Ammon.

This pen was introduced in 1998 in an exclusive limited edition of 4810 numbered pieces.
