Caran d' Ache 1997 Hong Kong Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Released in 1997, this rare limited edition fountain pen celebrates the reunification of Hong Kong with the mainland of China, after 156 years under British sovereignty.

The Swiss manufacturer of luxury writing instruments cooperated with the reknown architect Tao Ho, who also designed the new flag of Hong Kong, for the design of this pen. The result is an oversize fountain pen made of gold coated brass that is decorated with intense red chinese lacquer. Two rings can be seen on the cap and barrel of the fountain pen, each with 25 cubic zirconia. The Chinese characters seen on the barrel read "One Country, Two Systems" - a reference to the system proposed by Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s, under which despite Hong Kong's administrative and economic system would remain in tact, despite its coming under Chinese sovereignty.

The fountain pen has a nib made of 18kt gold and a uses a cartridge/converter filling system.

The Caran d'ache 1997 is an edition limited to 1997 numbered fountain pens, and each one of them comes in a luxurious giftbox developed specially for this limited edition. Please note that the box has parts made of leatherette, that has the tendency to deteriorate over time.
