Simple and unadorned, the Bamboo plant is symbolic of beauty and innocence. Because of its sturdy root structure, is also serves as a symbol for strength and prosperity in Japan. In this beautiful fountain pen, created by master Mamoru Wakabayashi, bamboo shoots out from a rich ground made of sparkling gold powder. 

The technique used to decorate this fountain pen is Togidashi Maki-e. In the application of Togidashi Maki-e the artist first creates the design using Hira Maki-e techniques. The pattern is created using colored urushi and raw lacquer and is then entirely coated with silver and gold powder. After drying, several layers of urushi are applied. In the final stage of Togidashi maki-e, once the urushi lacquer has dried, the design is revealed by burnishing the lacquer with charcoal. 

The Namiki Yukari Bamboo fountain pen has an 18kt gold nib (size No.10), and a cartridge/converter filling system. It comes in a luxurious gift box, along with a bottle of ink.
