Namiki Nippon Art Origami Penguin Fountain Pen

Namiki's Nippon Art collection focuses on subjects that are closely linked with the Japanese culture and daily life.

The Nippon Art Origami Penguin fountain pen joins the art of folding - that is believed to originate from Japan - with the symbolic nature of the Penguin.

The Penguin is a bird that has adapted to fly through the water instead of sky. So the Penguin is perceived as a symbol of adaptability, endurance, resilience, and overcoming adversity. Penguins often appear in folklore tales, and they are associated with wisdom, leadership, and a deep connection to the spirit world.

On the Origami Penguin fountain pen Kokkokai artists developed a design of Origami Penguins, an adult and a young penguin walking walking through a flurry of snow, a display of their deep family connection, and their endurance.

The technique used was Hira Maki-e (flat), in the application of which the design is created using colored urushi and raw lacquer. It is then entirely coated with silver and gold powder. After drying, several layers of urushi are applied, and when those too have hardened, the pen is highly polished to achieve a deep, lustrus shine.

The Namiki Nippon Art Origami Penguin fountain pen has a 14kt gold nib (size No.5), and a cartridge/converter filling system. It comes in a luxurious gift box, along with a bottle of ink.
