Namiki Nippon Art Origami Gold Fish Fountain Pen

Namiki's Nippon Art collection focuses on subjects that are closely linked with the Japanese culture and daily life.

The Nippon Art Origami Gold Fish fountain pen joins the art of folding - that is believed to originate from Japan - with the symbolism of the Gold Fish.

The Gold Fish, was introduced to Japan in the early 16th century by Chinese traders. They presented Gold Fish to Japanese nobility and Samurai as a highly prized pet. In Japanese culture, as in Chinese as well, the Gold Fish serves as a symbol of wealth, fortune, and good luck.

On the Origami Gold Fish fountain pen Kokkokai artists developed a design of Origami Gold Fish swimming, among spirals and dots representing air bubbles and the swirling waves.

The technique used was Hira Maki-e (flat), in the application of which the design is created using colored urushi and raw lacquer. It is then entirely coated with silver and gold powder. After drying, several layers of urushi are applied, and when those too have hardened, the pen is highly polished to achieve a deep, lustrus shine.

The Namiki Nippon Art Origami Gold Fish fountain pen has a 14kt gold nib (size No.5), and a cartridge/converter filling system. It comes in a luxurious gift box, along with a bottle of ink.
