Namiki Nippon Art Origami Crane Fountain Pen

Namiki's Nippon Art collection focuses on subjects that are closely linked with the Japanese culture and daily life.

The Nippon Art Origami Crane fountain pen joins the art of folding - that is believed to originate from Japan - with the high symbolism of the Crane.

The Crane, or Tsuru, is a national treasure in Japan, where the Crane is considered the bird of happiness. It appears in art, and mythology as a symbol of good luck and longevity as it is said to live 1000 years.

On the Origami Crane fountain pen Kokkokai artists developed a design of Origami Cranes flying among silver clouds dispensing a rain of gold.

The technique used was Hira Maki-e (flat), in the application of which the design is created using colored urushi and raw lacquer. It is then entirely coated with silver and gold powder. After drying, several layers of urushi are applied, and when those too have hardened, the pen is highly polished to achieve a deep, lustrus shine.

The Namiki Nippon Art Origami Crane fountain pen has a 14kt gold nib (size No.5), and a cartridge/converter filling system. It comes in a luxurious gift box, along with a bottle of ink.
