The Stipula Prometheia Limited Edition fountain pen is a unique sculptural work dedicated to the Ancient Greek myth of Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from the Gods and delivered it to humankind.
This work of art was designed by the famous Italian sculptor Paolo Cerrini and is a limited edition of only 398 numbered fountain pens produced in sterling silver.
According to myth, the Titan Prometheus defied the Gods, stole logs from their hearth and delivered them to humans. Along with fire came reason, knowledge, technology, and the spark of civilization.
When the Gods realized that what was to be their exclusive reserve had been brought to the humans, they moved to punish Prometheus for his defiance. The Titan was chained to a mountain to be eternally tormented by an eagle -a symbols of Zeus- that would every day visit the Titan and consume his liver. By night, the liver would grow back again, only ot be consumed by the eagle again the next day in this eternal punishment.
The base material of the pen is black lucite, but of course all the interesting work including the high-relief sculpture of Prometheus and the eagle are done in sterling silver. The barrel dominates a silver sleeve with sculptural work, among which stands out a gold-coated lightning symbolic of the wrath of Zeus.
An astonishing myth that carries eerie similarities to the Forbidden Fruit that got Adam and Eve Expelled from the Garden of Eden.
The fountain pen comes with a broad nib that is made of 18kt gold in two tones.
This beautiful and rare fountain pen comes in its original box, with a pen case, a magnifying glass, and more accessories provided by Stipula. We believe an exterior cardboard box is missing but the burgundy-colored box is in tact.
