The Pelikan Level is a collection that was first introduced in 1996, and features technical innovations that allow it to have a capacity that is nearly triple that of a conventional piston filling fountain pen, and five times that of a cartridge.
The tank of the fountain pen fills from a special ink bottle with a valve system, that is supplied along with the pen and is refillable.
The L5 Gold variation was introduced in 1998, has a barrel made of transparent blue acrylic resin, and a metallic cap with gold coated matte finish. It features a nib made of 18kt gold, and comes along with a special ink bottle, and base that can serve for filling up the pen, and double as a desk stand.
The Level series was discontinued in 2001, and is regarded now as fairly rare and collectible due to its unique filling system.
