The Varius writing instruments have a cylindrical barrel for added comfort during use, that is combined with a hexagonal cap which will make sure that the pen remains exactly where you place it.

The barrel of the Varius Ivanhoe is covered with a stainless steel mesh, reminiscent of the mesh armours used by knights of bygone eras. The mesh offers a soft touch but a very well grip. 

The Caran d' Ache Varius Ivanhoe fountain pen has an 18kt white gold nib, and uses a cartridge/converter filling system.
